The RDB Business Excellence Awards 2017, under the theme ’In pursuit of Business Excellence’, celebrates efforts made by both corporate and small medium sized enterprises in Rwanda. On January 19, 2018, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) awarded ten local business leaders during the 5th edition .
According to RDB News, the ten categories that were awarded on 19 January 2018 are the Investor of the Year, Emerging Investor of the Year, the Exporter of the Year, Emerging Exporter of the Year, The Innovator of the Year, The Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, The Made in Rwanda Enterprise of the Year, The Manufacturer of the Year and the Service Provider of the year. Over 100 companies applied for the RDB Business Excellence Awards 2017.
Commenting on the role of the private sector in Rwanda’s development agenda and how the RDB Excellence Awards tie into RDB’s mission of fast tracking investment in Rwanda, RDB Chief Executive Officer, Clare Akamanzi, said:
‘’We recognise the role the private sector plays in spearheading Rwanda’s economy and that is why we are celebrating the business community this way. As RDB our main mission is to successfully make Rwanda the investment destination of choice in the region. Today, Rwanda is ranked by the World Bank Doing Business Report as one of the top 50 countries in the world in terms of ease of doing business. In addition, Rwanda is ranked as the second most competitive economy in sub-Saharan Africa by the World Economic Forum. These rankings are proof that Rwanda is making progress towards its goal of becoming the premier destination for investment in our region.

Made in Rwanda enterprise of the year: Uzuri K&Y
Innovator of the Year: Ignite Power
Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Sanit Wing
Service provider of the Year: I&M bank
Manufacturer of the Year: Bakheresa
Talking to KT Press abaout the meaning of this 5th Edition of the RDB Business Excellence Award , Darshana Joshi who received the RDB’s investor award of the year said : “It is not just the investment we have but the impact it has to the social and economic aspects. The fact that we are a social and economic enterprise and exporting out of Rwanda we will end up being one of the biggest exporters”.
“We have created jobs for 300 here at the plant in addition to over 9,000 farmers selling cereals to the plant.
We didn’t know the meaning of the award but we have been doing what we are good at and implementing the goals we set. However, it is a good feeling to get the award” Darshana added..
